We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class. Using your background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.
Imagine you live in an area that has access to all eight types of energy studied in class. If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select? Please explain why. In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.
If I had access to all eight energy sources, I would use Nuclear Energy. This energy can produce massive amounts of energy in a little time. One uranium pellet can power a city for a day. Nuclear energy also is not renewable but it needs uranium which is a very popular and common metal. This means that Nuclear energy can keep producing energy for a long time. Also, only ten employees are needed to run a humongous nuclear power plant.
ReplyDeleteI would choose petroleum and coal because they are fast fuel and useful and coal is cheap and petroleum is something I could use on the car and stuff, and coal I can use to cook instead of using the gas from the grill or the stove and use for the fireplace in the winter.
ReplyDeleteIf i had to chose just one energy source. I would chose nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is very useful because one power plant can run an entire city. Nuclear energy also generates lots of energy very fast. One problem about this energy is that if it fails it will not generate energy for a while.
ReplyDeleteIf I had access to all 8 energy sources, I would choose nuclear. Although this energy source may not be that clean, it produces an enormous amount of energy. A uranium 235 pellet the size of your fingertip can produce the enough energy for a city for a day. The nuclear power plant can be placed anywhere away from civilization so it doesn't need a specific area.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge of choosing 2 energy sources for my city I would choose hydropower and solar. I would choose these 2 because they are both very good for the environment and are unlimited. The sun can power through the clouds and if you think about it water never runs out. the only bad side is that solar panels are expensive and hydropower dams can break and cause floods.
ReplyDeleteI would go with nuclear energy because we would have good electricity throughout a whole entire city with just one pellet. The only problem is that its expensive to get one power plant.
ReplyDeleteI would select solar because its renewable, will help in house and everywhere you go that has solar power, it is in expense but if the sun is not out then solar power will not work. So that is why I would chose solar.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most efficient energy resources to me is geothermal energy. geothermal energy is renewable and does not give off greenhouse gases. one of the problems with it is that it is expensive to buy.
ReplyDeleteIf I was living in an area that provided all energy sources and I had to pick one to power the city I would most definitely choose coal. I would choose coal because it is the energy source that has the most positives and the least negatives. A positive would be that it is very inexpensive. You can buy a bag of coal for around six dollars. Another positive reason would be that it creates fire very easily. With coal you could get a fire instantly. One negative would be that it takes a long time to make. Other than that coal would be the gas I would use to power the city.

If I could choose any energy source to use, I would pick Geothermal energy. I would pick this because it is renewable. We can use it again and again. Also, it is completely natural, and creates no pollution. This comes from the ground, so it doesn't have chemicals and yucky things to harm us or the environment. And, you don't need anything to make it. For example, wind energy uses wind turbines to create the energy. But for this energy, you don't need a big chunky machine. Unfortunately, there is a negative to this energy. Geothermal energy costs a lot, roughly $7,000-$10,000. Aside the price, Geothermal energy is worth it.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose what energy source the city in the area would use I would pick geothermal energy. One of the reasons I would choose geothermal energy is because it is renewable. Since geothermal energy is renewable then we would never run out of the energy. We also have lots of the raw material that is need which is water. Another reason why I would choose geothermal energy is because it is good for the environment. Geothermal energy is not harmful to the Earth meaning there is no pollution. Unfortunately geothermal energy can be expensive. The beginning price is 7,000 dollars and could cost even more than that. That is why I would choose geothermal energy for the source of energy that the city in the area would choose.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the opportunity to chose what energy source I would use to run my city would be hydropower. I am picking hydropower because I feel it is easiest to get to. Hydropower comes from rivers and the water provides the energy. Also it is very renewable because its raw materials is itself, water. So you can use it over and over again. One of the only disadvantages of hydropower is if there is a drought and the water runs low. All of the energy that hydropower gives off can be used to power any plugged in electronic.
ReplyDeleteI would choose solar energy. solar energy is good for the environment, is not expensive, source is unlimited and, it is renewable. Thats why I would choose solar energy.
ReplyDeleteI would do hydropower. Hydropower is very clean for the earth and leaves no bad gases. It is powered by the water cycle and it can be reused for power. But it creates energy slowly. I think that it would be great for the community.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick one source of energy to produced, I would pick coal for two reasons. First, coal is easy to find. You can find it almost anywhere in the earth and there is a lot of it. Coal is mostly found under ground. Second, coal is inexpensive. It only costs a penny right out of your pocket for one piece of coal. Most energy sources are expensive, but coal is not. One bad thing about coal is that coal is really hard to make. It takes more than a lifetime to make. Clearly, I would pick coal as my one energy source.
ReplyDeleteI would do hydropower because it is easy to use. You can build a dam at a river and the water can makes energy. The water is then fed back out so it can be reused. But, it is VERY expensive and is slow in making energy.

ReplyDeleteIf I were in charge of choosing an energy resource used by a city in the area, I would choose geothermal energy. I would choose it because it doesn’t pollute, the air will stay the exact same and won’t change it in anyway. It also has easy access, all you have to do is drill a 10-20 foot deep hole and get the geothermal steam or water from the earth. Finally, it powers a wide range of homes, it power one kilowatt per hour for just 3 cents. It also powers buildings and other things.

I would use Hydropower, because it's renewable and can be recycled. Th edownside is that it's not found everywhere.

In my opinion, nuclear energy should be used to power Blakeville for many reasons. Nuclear energy is very efficient, and a Uranic pellet the size of your finger can power Blakeville for an entire day. Although creating a nuclear reactor is very expensive, actually buying the energy is reasonably priced. Also, nuclear energy is more efficient than coal. One truck of Uranic pellets is equal to 1500+ trucks of coal. Nuclear energy is non renewable source, but the raw material of Uranium is a pretty common metal. Also, nuclear energy is emission free, which means that is will not produce pollutants into the air. Overall I think that it would be the best choice for Blakeville.
ReplyDeleteI would choose hydropower as a favorable energy source. Hydropower has many advantages. First, the raw material of hydropower is water which is renewable. It can be accessed anytime. Hydropower is not very expensive to use. A disadvantage is the need to build an expensive system to control this energy source. Building a system can cost millions of dollars. Also, building these systems can be potentially dangerous. Hydropower is very easy to use, however. This energy source can produce electricity. For example, you can plug in computers, irons, laptops, or anything that has an outlet to plug into the wall. Everyone in the world today can access this energy source.
ReplyDeleteThe energy that I would use in a city is solar energy. Solar energy provides other households with heat energy and not with electricity.Solar energy is also renewable but solar is very expensive.
ReplyDeleteWind energy is the most efficient power source for a city. WInd is renewable and unlimited. Even when there isn’t strong wind outside, the propellers on a turbine spin like a fan to create powerful winds that spin a generator to create long lasting energy. Wind energy is very clean for the environment too. It does not produce pollutants, or ruin animal habitats like other energy sources. A big disadvantage about this energy source is the cost of building and maintaining a turbine is very high, but the wind, the raw material, is free.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in a city that had all eight power sources I would chose Solar. Solar power is renewable, and it is easy to get to, there is an unlimited amount, and you can get it anywhere it is sunny. Although there is a flaw It is very expensive it costs 530 dollars for one panel. The sun is renewable after it is used it can reuse itself to create more energy. It is easy to get to, everywhere it is sunny you can charge your solar panels then it converts the rays into energy. There is an unlimited amount, the sun is always giving off light so it is unlimited. To get the suns rays its free. To get the suns rays you have to be some where its is sunny to charge the panels.

In my opinion the easiest and best way to generate or produce electricity would be to use coal. I chose this energy source mostly because it is cheap, generates power, and produces electricity. The only bad things about this energy source is it is non-renewable and takes a long time to produce. Even though it takes millions of years to produce their will be a lot of coal to use. If we were going to say how much longer we have of this energy source starting from today, it would be about 112 years. The main reason why this resource is the best is because it is cheap and we have a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick a energy resource for a community I would choose wind for many reasons but here are two. First Wind turbines are environmentally friendly they don't give off smoke and they don't harm the environment. Second Air is unlimited and it will never run out of its resource. One thing that is bad is that sometimes they are really loud so you have to put them far away from civilization so they don't annoy people.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in an area that could access all eight energy sources, I would choose Hydropower. I would choose Hydropower because it is very cheap and it’s also renewable because water evaporates, then it rains or snows, then the process repeats. You can access water from almost anywhere, so you can make a Hydropower Plant anywhere there’s water. For me, it’s a no brain-er.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick an energy resource for Blakeville, I would choose hydropower. Hydropower is renewable and it is created by water, a renewable resource. It does not leave behind harmful gasses and not only does it work in rivers or lakes, but also on the ends of waterfalls. Although hydropower is created slowly, it powers many things such as TVs, computers, and many other electronics.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge of choosing an Energy Resources I would choose Natural Gas. Natural Gas is used for many important things. For example, Natural Gas is used for electricity, heating, drying cloths and manufacturing operations. Without heat people would freeze in the winter time. Many people use electricity in the day, without electricity a lot of people would be without work. One reason I would not choose Natural Gas is because Natural Gas is extremely flammable and can kill lots of people. For these reasons this is why I would choose Natural Gas to be an Energy resource.

If I was to choose to put one energy source in the nearby area, I would choose Nuclear energy. I would choose Nuclear energy, Nuclear energy in my point of view is a good choice it’s extremely powerful as in it can produce a lot of energy in a strong way, it works very fast, one uranium pellet the size of your fingertip can power a city for a day. Although Nuclear energy is very good it really isn't that good for the environment. That is why I would choose Nuclear energy to power the nearby area.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in an area that can access all of the eight types of energy, I would chose Wind for my city because it could power for you all day, plus the wind is free one wind turbine will be able to power 475 homes which will be good because we might only need few. The only problem would be is it is really loud.
ReplyDeleteI think that if I were in charge of picking a energy resource for a city than I would pick nuclear. It is fairly inexpensive and you can get a lot of energy from a very little amount of it. The only bad thing is that it gives off a lot of radiation. That is what energy resource that I would pick if I was able to for a city.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in a city that had access to all resources I would pick Hydropower energy to power the city. Hydropower has a very common raw material (water) and Hydropower is one of the cheapest energy sources! But, if there was a drought it would create a loss of Hydropower. Hydropower is a great energy source to use.
ReplyDeleteHydro power is the best because it's a very clean and efficient energy source. One thing that's bad about it is that it hurts the environment in the water the dam is using. The best thing about hydro power is it reuses the resource it needs water. I think if we build more of those hydro power dams this energy source can become a very important asset of energy to all of the U.S. energy.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose which energy source I wanted in the city I would choose Solar because it is a non toxic energy and works good with nature. It he reliable and safe to use. That's why I would use Solar energy
ReplyDelete-Kk
If I could choose one energy source to be in a city it would be Solar energy because, first its renewable energy, so I have an unlimited amount. Second it does not hurt or destroy the environment, it works with nature. Third its very reliable and it will always work. the only thing bad about solar energy is that you can't control it.
